Manchester Science Park Launch ‘Co-Working’ Area
In a set-up that sounds not dissimilar to eOffice, Manchester Science Park are about to dedicate ten workstations for shared use in their offices just outside central Manchester.Aimed at home workers or those spending a lot of time in different locations, it is hoped the office space will be a hive of interaction, knowledge sharing and collaboration.
A major advantage of serviced offices can be the interaction with other clients – the so called ‘water cooler’ conversations – that can produce new leads or inspiration for new products. This shared workspace is a step further but could work well for those who would prefer to be away from home and in a more work-orientated environment.
Offices North West have seen similar schemes in the past and several business centres offer ‘hotdesking’ or ‘touchdown’ space, indeed there was rumour this week of Regus opening up a 3,000 sq ft area of a new centre dedicated to this. We can certainly see advantages, but do wonder just how easy it would be to share office space with other companies, particularly when it comes to telephone conversations.
We agree that such a scheme in somewhere like Manchester’s northern quarter could work really well and would be interested to hear your thoughts on shared space, particularly if you have experience of using such offices.
