Stockport Council Commission DTZ for Office Review
Keen to benefit from the rise and rise of neighbouring Manchester, Stockport Council have announced a review of office space in the town centre and borough.Stockport could well be a key location for business, with all Manchester – London trains required to stop at the station station, great access to the M60, and a large workforce. However, it suffers from a quality commercial core with developments seemingly coming in bits and pieces. They were one of the cities that could well have benefited from the Manchester congestion charge with the proposal for a new transport interchange, but neither the council nor residents were in support of the proposals so the cons clearly outweighed the pros in their opinion.
The review is one step in trying to improve the current fragmented situation.
Councillor Kevin Hogg, executive member for regeneration commented: “Stockport is an active, ambitious borough and we are keen to build upon and develop our strong offer for the future. This commission will build upon the Town Centre masterplan, as well as a number of exciting projects already underway, for example the £13m flagship office development on the A6″.
Faber Maunsell will support DTZ in the undertaking of the study.
